Winter Chill...
Just an update on dad
(2008-12-24, 10:14 a.m.)
As you can imagine, I've been spending most of my time at the hospital with dad when I'm not working there. Last Thursday they did a thoracentesis, which is an insertion of a hollow needle or similar instrument into the pleural cavity of the chest in order to drain pleural fluid, on his left lung. They got lots of fluid the first night, and since then not much. So Monday he spiked a 103 degree fever again, and they did cultures on blood and urine, and those were clear, so they took him for another CT scan and found another spot on his right lung and he's getting a chest tube inserted today. So the hope is this time, it will drain the fluid and infection, and he will start getting better. They've kept him sedated since he went up to Critical Care, but occasionally he's semi-lucid. I was up there Monday, and he opened his eyes when I said something to him, which I don't know what's harder, seeing him laying there drugged up, or when he's half awake trying to get you to take the restraints off of him.
Oh, and to make this holiday even better, my great aunt was admitted on Monday with pneumonia.
In other news, the guy that I've been talking to...I'm just not sure if it's what I want. He's very nice, but kind of oblivious to what's going on in my life. I mean, he knows what's going on with dad, but he keeps making hints about wanting to meet up. Like yesterday, he went and picked up his kids, and was taking them over to the casino, and invited me to go with them. I just have way too much going on right now, to even think about starting something with him.
I get to start work today and tomorrow at 3 so I think it's time for some lunch and a rest before going in.
Happy holidays everyone....
